DRASA and the Lagos State Ministry of Health received a request from Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Ebute-Metta to train their staff. This request came after they heard about the training we did for Lagos state general hospitals.
Why did they want training? Because of the ongoing Lassa fever outbreak across the country, FMC Ebute-Metta wanted to be prepared just in case someone with Lassa fever ends up in their facility.
We love these kinds of requests! So of course, we were happy to oblige.
We trained a mix of doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, and environmental hygiene officers from FMC Ebute-Metta and the content covered included:
- Case definitions for Lassa fever and other viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHFs)
- Triage and isolation protocol
- Infection prevention and control (IPC) best practices
So now one more facility in Lagos is better prepared to handle infectious diseases (particularly Lassa fever) but our work is not over! DRASA will continue to push forward until the same can be said for every facility in our health sector.
