COVID-19: What is DRASA Doing?

We’ve been asked how we’re responding to the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic so here’s an update.

Currently, DRASA is directly supporting the fight against COVID-19 as a member of the Emergency Response Operations Team in Lagos State – the epicenter of Nigeria’s COVID-19 outbreak.

We’re part of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team of the EOC and in between our response activities, we attend daily strategic meetings with the larger group.

What exactly has the team done so far?

  • In partnership with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Africa CDC, we trained 43 staff (doctors, nurses, cleaners, attendants, hygienists, and administrators) from the isolation facility in Lagos on COVID-19 and how to prevent the spread of the virus
  • We trained 240 staff from the 26 general hospitals across Lagos state on COVID-19 epidemiology, detection, and infection prevention and control
  • We educated 110 teachers and principals from the largest district within the Lagos State Ministry of Education on COVID-19: symptoms to look for, the notification system for suspect cases, and debunked myths about the virus
  • We conducted IPC assessments of 5 sites that will serve as additional COVID-19 isolation and treatment centers

And there’s still a lot of work to do to keep us all safe.

Building capacity to contain COVID-19 in Lagos
