In March we posted an update sharing what we were doing as part of the Lagos State Response Team to support the fight against COVID-19, but since then so much has happened!
As July begins and we enter the second half of 2020, we’ve reflected on our COVID-19 activities and here’s a quick overview of what we’ve accomplished so far:
BUILDING CAPACITY
Trained and equipped
1,583 health personnel
on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Since Nigeria’s 1st confirmed case of COVID-19, DRASA has trained and equipped more than 1,500 medical and non-medical health personnel in Lagos state including doctors, nurses, hygienists, cleaners, lab scientists, sample collectors, ambulance drivers, medicine vendors, just to name a few
- We have also provided remote Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) support to 4 other states in their efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19
- After our IPC program, these health professionals go on to serve in COVID-19 treatment centers around the country and support Nigeria’s response as frontline health workers
INSPECTING INFRASTRUCTURE
Assessed construction and set up of
35 isolation and quarantine facilities
- Many COVID-19 treatment centers have been set up across the country and we have assessed the construction, set up, and renovation of more than 35 isolation and quarantine facilities to ensure they can safely and adequately house COVID-19 positive or suspect cases
DEVELOPING POLICIES
Supported the development of
16 Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidelines and SOPs
- To help the operations of treatment centers and quarantine facilities, we participated in the development of 16 guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for COVID-19
INCREASING AWARENESS
Educated and prepared
485 personnel
from hospitality, aviation, and education sectors as they prepare to resume post-lockdown
- As lockdowns ease and other sectors begin to reopen for business, we have expanded our support to the hospitality industry, aviation industry, and education sector among others
WHAT’S NEXT?
Train and equip
10,000 health workers every year
through Nigeria’s First-Ever Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Simulation Center
- We’re setting up Nigeria’s first-ever Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Simulation Training Center so we can train up to 10,000 health workers every year who will serve as our nation’s defense against COVID-19 and whichever infectious disease comes next
- We’re expanding our IPC training to support other sectors because at the end of the day, we all need to know how to stay safe in this COVID-19 era
- We’re still serving as a member of the Emergency Response Operations Team in Lagos State – the epicenter of Nigeria’s COVID-19 outbreak – and we’ll continue to lend our support to reduce the impact of COVID-19 across our country
Right now, we’re working 7 days a week to ensure we do our part to slow the spread and save lives and we’re not slowing down any time soon! So stay tuned and check out the gallery below to see some of our activities so far:
