Youths for Pandemic Alliance (Youth PALLI) Fellowship: Improving Community Participation in Health Emergencies and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
A One-Health leadership program for Youth-Led Organizations
APPLY NOWDisease outbreaks, climate crises, and weak healthcare systems all constitute public health challenges to Africa.
Inappropriate antimicrobial use which causes Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) undermines efforts to combat old and emerging infectious diseases, making once-treatable infections potentially lethal, while exacerbating epidemic proneness.
The inaugural DRASA Health Trust and Alliance for Sustainable Livestock (ASL) Youths PALLI Fellowship 2025 leverages the potential of Nigeria’s predominantly youthful population. Using a participatory approach to strengthen community resilience against health emergencies, including AMR, the Youth PALLI aims to:
- Establish a nationwide network of young professionals interested in global health security and AMR.
- Develop One Health leadership and governance capacity.
This network (Community of Practice) would foster:
- Continuous learning and innovation
- Policy and strategic initiatives in emergency preparedness and AMR.

Collaboration to advance national One Health strategies and Action Plans.

What are the Goals of the Youth PALLI Fellowship?
- To establish a network of youth-led public health initiatives under the umbrella of global health security to form the Youths for Pandemic Alliance (Youth PALLI) a One Health leadership Community of Practice.
- To provide a platform for capacity building and co-creating strategies that address identified gaps in, Emergency Preparedness, and AMR awareness and advocacy through the adoption of a One Health approach for broader impact.
- To improve national and subnational preparedness and response to health emergencies and AMR by, strengthening alliances and collaboration between youths and government stakeholders, in line with the National One Health Strategic Plan.
How is the Youth PALLI Fellowship Structured?
During the program, the fellows will engage in a structured experience designed to, deepen knowledge of Health Emergency Preparedness and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), enhance One Health leadership and advocacy capabilities, expand professional networks
Fellows will be guided by esteemed One Health leading professionals (the faculty) and will:
- Participate in the virtual launch of the network.
- Engage in bi-monthly training sessions
- Connect with experienced professionals in the field
- Access resources on current and relevant health security and AMR topical issues.
- Compete in a hackathon with the chance to secure partnership support to implement their impactful project ideas.
- Contribute to the One Health field through the development of knowledge products (research and publications) and participation in conferences
What is the timeframe of the Fellowship?


Capacity Building (Aug – Oct 2025) – Fellows will undergo six (6) impactful bi-monthly virtual workshops covering the following capacity gaps identified during the co-creation workshop:
○ Module 1: Overview of Global Health Security and AMR
○ Module 2: AMR Behavior Change Communication
○ Module 3: Health Emergency Preparedness and Response (HEPR)
○ Module 4: One Health Leadership and Governance
○ Module 5: Policy Advocacy and System Thinking
○ Module 6: Grant Writing and Resource Mobilization



○ Module 1: Overview of Global Health Security and AMR
○ Module 2: AMR Behavior Change Communication
○ Module 3: Early Warning, Alert, and Response System (EWARS)
○ Module 4: One Health Leadership and Governance
○ Module 5: Policy Advocacy and System Thinking
○ Module 6: Grant Writing and Resource Mobilization

Who can apply (Eligibility Criteria)?
- This application is open to Nigerians who are members of youth-led organizations or aspiring young public health professionals, aged 18 – 35 years, with backgrounds in: animal, human and environmental sciences, social science, epidemiology, health informatics, etc. Who are interested in awareness, education, policy, and advocacy for Health emergency preparedness and response, and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
- Prospective Fellows should be a leader or someone who operates in a decision-making capacity in their respective organizations such as, Executive Director / Coordinator, or Program / Project Officer.

Successful individual applicants will be expected to dedicate at least 3 hours for each of the 6 sessions to be covered bi-monthly between August – October 2025.
For successful applicants of youth-led organizations, the above applies; however, 2 representatives may be nominated to attend these training sessions.
