At DRASA, we believe in building from the ground u

At DRASA, we believe in building from the ground up. That’s why for our community engagement efforts, we partner closely with Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs).

Who are DSNOs? They are the first point of call for community members whenever an unknown illness or suspected outbreak occurs within the community. They immediately visit the location, collect fluid samples from the sick person(s), and notify the medical officers of health within their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs) to take action to prevent further spread.

Last week, we co-hosted a session at the World Health Expo @whxlagos with @nigeriahealthwatch and @ducitbluefdn , focusing on the private sector's role in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Our Managing Director, @NiniolaWilliams, represented us at the event and emphasized the crucial role that the private sector can play in supporting AMR initiatives, calling for the establishment of a private sector coalition to join the fight against AMR.

She highlighted that a collaborative approach is crucial to prevent the misuse of antimicrobial medications and mitigate their adverse effects from affecting future generations.

Today we’re spotlighting the relationship between safe food and public health, and the role that DRASA continues to play in closing the gap.

Earlier this year, we built the capacity of food safety officers in Oyo state on hygiene, storage, and contamination prevention, empowering them to protect public health. We educated them on standard procedures for inspecting food as they carry out their duties to prevent food contamination that could cause foodborne illnesses.

By equipping these food safety officers with knowledge and practical tools, we are shaping a future where safe food is a standard, not a luxury.

Remember, food safety is everyone’s business.

This #WorldEnvironmentDay, we are proud to highlight one of our Health Champions, Ayodele Temidayo, whose dedication has improved her neighborhood's environment.

Through our community health and hygiene model, Ayodele learned how environmental hazards can contribute to the spread of infectious diseases. She took proactive steps to create a cleaner environment by ensuring that waste is disposed of from human dwellings to reduce rodent attacks and resolving issues with leaking septic tanks to prevent illnesses such as cholera.

In her words, "I would like to see the environment kept very clean first because most of these diseases we don’t even know where they are coming from. Whatever you throw into the environment will come back to you".

Join our Managing Director, @niniolawilliams, at the 2025 World Health Exhibition AMR Workshop, where she will be speaking on "Advancing Private Sector Action in Nigeria's Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Response."

This discussion is vital because the private sector is identified as a key player in the fight against AMR in the AMR National Action Plan (NAP) 2.0, a policy document in which DRASA played a significant role.

As Nigeria prepares to host the 5th Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on AMR, this workshop presents a valuable opportunity for all relevant stakeholders to establish a foundation for addressing this critical gap, and we are proud to be part of the country's fight against AMR.

DRASA worked with 136 health workers and staff at the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja to conduct an IPC training equipping them with life-saving skills in hand hygiene, PPE, injection safety, waste segregation, aseptic technique, and more.

Our training approach combined instructor-led teaching, demonstration, and group practical sessions, ensuring learning was both engaging and applicable.

This training reinforces our efforts to ensure that no health worker is left behind in the fight against healthcare-associated infections. Every health worker, in every facility, deserves access to the tools and knowledge to keep themselves and their patients safe.

DRASA is leading the charge against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Nigeria.

Through a strategic partnership with 12 universities across Nigeria’s geo-political zones and the AMR Intervarsity Training Program, @amr_program, we empowered youth-led AMR clubs to reach over 29,000 people with life-saving awareness on AMR.

From campuses to communities, we walked the talk, driving a national movement to protect lives and preserve the power of antibiotics and other antimicrobials.
