First Coronavirus Case in Nigeria Confirmed

By now you may have heard there is 1 case of coronavirus in Lagos, Nigeria which was confirmed on 27th February 2020.

The case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and traveled back from Milan, Italy on 25th February 2020.

What you need to know:

  • Stay calm and don’t panic. The Federal government and Lagos State have activated their Emergency Operations Centres and are tracing all contacts of this 1st case
  • Coronavirus – called COVID-19 – has a low fatality rate. Most infected people (97-98%) make a full recovery

What you need to do:

  • Ensure you get enough rest and maintain healthy eating habits to boost your immune system
  • Frequently wash your hands with liquid soap and clean running water for at least 20 seconds (or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer)
  • Be mindful of the surfaces and people you touch
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth (these are entry points for germs that may be on your hands)
  • Clean and disinfect your environment and frequently touched objects/surfaces
  • Avoid close contact with sick people
  • If you need to cough or sneeze, do so into your inner elbow or into a disposable tissue, NOT into your hands
  • If you are sick, stay at home and do not self-medicate, seek professional help
