Do you know that 1 in 10 people die from meningitis, and tragically, around half of all meningitis deaths are children under 5, according to the @meningitis_research?

Meningitis is an infectious disease that attacks the protective lining of the brain and spinal cord. It spreads through infected droplets from the nose or throat, meaning that activities like kissing, coughing, sneezing, or even sharing utensils can put you at risk.

At the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)

At the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (#AMR) last month, world leaders committed to urgent action to curb the misuse of #antimicrobials in health, agriculture, and the environment.

This is a major step in the fight against AMR which is a growing threat projected to cause 10 million deaths annually by 2050. This united effort also calls for sustainable national financing and US$100 million in catalytic funding, to help achieve a target of at least 60% of countries having funded AMR national action plans by 2030.

We look forward to seeing the outcomes of this global collaboration which will protect public health and preserve the effectiveness of life-saving antimicrobial drugs for generations to come.

Did you know that overusing antibiotics can make bacterial infections stronger and harder to treat? Globally, we face a serious issue called Antimicrobial Resistance #AMR, which makes common medications less effective, but together, we can fight it!

Here is what you can do:
1. Avoid unnecessary use of antimicrobial drugs such as antibiotics, antimalarials, and antifungals (and do not self-medicate, always seek a diagnosis before treating yourself)
2. Practice good hygiene – washing your hands regularly can prevent the spread of resistant infections.
3. Clean your environment and dispose of waste properly to avoid contamination.
4. Support farmers who avoid overusing antibiotics in livestock.

These few actions can help us protect ourselves and our communities.

Rabies is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from infected animals to humans.

Once infected, the rabies virus travels to the brain and can cause symptoms such as hallucinations, anxiety, agitation, confusion, fever, and headache.

Rabies can be fatal within days if not properly managed. However, by taking these measures, we can work together to eliminate rabies.

Did you know that climate change could lead to an increase in diseases in the future? According to the International Federation of Environmental Health, it is estimated that by 2050, around 500 million people could be affected by diseases like malaria, which are spread by mosquitoes.

In order to build strong and resilient communities, we need to take a comprehensive approach. This means proactively working to reduce the impact of climate change and protect our environment.

Neglecting the environment, such as through unsafe drinking water, poor food hygiene practices, air pollution, lack of border security to control immigration and importation, and inadequate waste management, could lead to outbreaks of infectious diseases.

Remember, protecting the environment is crucial as it in turn will protect us.
